New Audiobook

“The Politician and the Pedestrian” by Stephany Evans Steggall is now available as an audiobook from Amazon and Audible. It is also available as an e-book on Amazon, and the book is available from the Jabiru Publishing online Shop.

This historical novel tells the story of two boys growing up on Jimbour Station near Dalby, west of Brisbane. The white boy is the son of the owner of Jimbour Station. He becomes a successful and wealthy Member of the new Queensland Government and builds a beautiful mansion, now called Jimbour House. The Aboriginal boy, who is an extremely fast runner, becomes a pedestrian, the name given at that time in the mid-19th century to participants in competitive running for prize money. Although he was very successful in this pursuit, being at one time the fastest runner in the world, his life experiences deteriorated over time, and he died in penury, after years of poor physical and mental health.

Stephany Evans Steggall has carefully constructed an interesting fictionalised account of their two stories, carefully drawing on actual historical records from the time of colonial expansion in the new State of Queensland. The book is a compelling read. Now, it can be experienced in the audio form, bringing this time in Australia’s history to life.
