From Ship’s Boy to Millionaire

The proof has arrived from the printer, meaning that this story of Werner Steffen’s very interesting life will be released soon. Growing up in wartime Germany was not easy, but Werner turned his life around through sheer hard work. After working with the United States Navy on the Rhine River after the war, he emigrated to Australia. He studied hard, first for the Leaving Certificate and then for his Engineering degree, all the time working hard to support his family.

Becoming an engineer set Werner on a path where his extraordinary skills were recognised, and he held many interesting posts. These included working at Lucas Heights near Sydney, and travelling to Kenya as the head manager of an international company. However, when he moved to Cairns in far north Queensland with his wife Christina, his whole life changed. He quickly became known as a commercial builder and investor, making his mark on the building industry in the Cairns region.
