Back Country Rivers 2nd edition

“Back Country Rivers: Wider and Deeper”, the 2nd edition of David Howard’s extremely popular book, has just been released. Our humorous bush poet and erstwhile ABC Radio announcer in Longreach has added some more of his amusing poems and clever stories that show his great knowledge of the back country rivers in western Queensland.

New and rather unlikely topics include the making of a fortune by distributing and selling duffer opal mine-shafts recycled as fence hole posts, how to farm in North Queensland as long as you are not scared of crocodiles, the etiquette surrounding the wearing of riding boots, and some information you probably didn’t want to know about a condition called the Queensland Disease. David has dug a bit deeper into historical tales of plane crashes and survivorship during World War II. The new edition also provides more information about early ostrich farming in Australia and its importance for ladies’ fashions, the role of the emu and its oil and feathers, and the significance of the emu in Australian Army tradition. In other words, there’s something for everyone!

The book is available from the Shop.
