Poems – with Pride and Passion is Noel Humphreys’ fourth poetry book. In this latest one, Noel continues his tried and true method of writing poems about things which Australians hold close to their hearts: love of country, love of nature, love of family, love of sport, loyalty to nation, and devotion to duty. Noel also opens up on some new themes such as the bonds of love that have become stronger over time, as he reflects on the passing of his two brothers who were Vietnam veterans, and his brother-in-law. Not surprisingly, these events have led him to a closer tie with his sister, his sole surviving sibling.
Noel follows a strong tradition among Australian poets, and has included a very clever poem about his favourite poets, such as Henry Lawson, Banjo Patterson and Rupert McCall.
Noel’s previous poetry books, also published by Jabiru Publishing, are This Homeland of Mine: Poems of Australia, Australians and Australiana, Inspiration Then & Now: Poems of History and Nostalgia and Praise, Tributes and Eulogies. As Noel has recently moved to a quiet home in the bush, it is very likely he will be busily writing more poems about the Australian countryside he loves so much. He also loves to go on cruises with his wife and entertains other cruise passengers by reciting his poems.
