Russell Clark’s new novel, The Locust Years, is presently at the printer and will be released soon. The novel tells the story of two brothers, Joe and Jeremy, who are mates as well as brothers. They are so close in age that they seemed like twins. They were also almost inseparable, although their characters are quite different. Jeremy is outgoing, adventurous and popular, while Joe is the quiet one who goes along with Jeremy’s ideas. This closeness is challenged when Jenny comes on the scene, resulting in an undercurrent of rivalry between the brothers.
A tragic event leads to the disturbing consequence that Joe is accused of a murder he did not commit. Distanced both emotionally and geographically from those he loves, Joe finds himself imprisoned. He loses everything he has ever loved, and becomes enwrapped in bitterness. After making two friends in prison, he gradually realises that his biggest battle is within himself, as he fights his own bitterness and anger.
