Dr Stephany Evans Steggall has been writing and publishing for the past 20 years. She enjoys researching interesting lives, resulting in biographies or fictionalised accounts of real people, with both genres based on meticulous research of many sources of information.
Her writing life effectively began with a PhD thesis in the field of Australian Literature. The biographical study, titled Colin Thiele: Author and Educator, was followed by the publication of Can I Call You Colin: The Authorised Biography of Colin Thiele (2004). Her other published work includes biographies of other well-known and important people such as Thomas Kenneally. In recognition of her work, she won the Hazel Rowley Fellowship in 2013. She has recently turned her skills to writing historical fiction, with Rescuing Árni (2024), about the Icelander who rescued the sole survivor of the Dunbar shipwreck off Sydney in 1857.
Dr Steggall is a mother of four and a grandmother of eleven. She lives in Toowoomba, Queensland, with her husband, Bob.
