Noela McNamara’s latest book, “The Vagaries of Life: Selected Stories and Poems”, will be going to the printer this week. Noela’s imaginative mind has conjured up a varied selection of stories: life as a fly-in, fly-out worker at a mine at Weipa in far north Queensland; inheriting a chateau and vineyard in France; a Mardi Gras festival in a small country town; and premonitions of death. The poems celebrate nature and the human condition. Here is a sneak preview of one of her poems.
Ladybird, Ladybird
Ladybird, oh ladybird
who landed on my knee
inviting dreams of sweet fantasia
should I alight with thee
to float upon the winds of fate
to lands across the sea?
My mortal bonds entwine me
and alas I cannot choose;
not desperate like Daedalus
or a goddess of the muse
I lack the strength and knowledge
my human bonds to refuse.
Fly away sweet temptress
with your spotted wings so bright;
enjoy the freedom of your life
and leave me to my plight
dreaming of other places
and sweet elusive flight.
